Return to Blogging (with a Vlog)

Greetings! Remember me?

No? Oh, well.

After an unintentional three-month hiatus, I’ve decided to return to blog land!

I’ve officially moved to Mexico where I’m now working as an English teacher in Mexico City as I save more money to ensure this adventure continues.

I’ve visited a lot of places over the last three months, seen a lot of sights and met a lot of people.

All of those tales are yet to come.

But to kick things off, I’ve made a somewhat long (and really random) vlog full of the most useful useless facts about what I’ve discovered in this crazy country.

Apologies for the length. I don’t know why I let it get so long. I guess my vlogs are the equivalent to Sally‘s posts – very long but always exciting and fun. (Though that’s a lie because we all know these vlogs are long and boring.)

Anyhoo, give it a watch if you want to be caught up on the new expat Ceri.

Hola from Mexico!

Check out the bags under my eyes!

Do excuse the state of my face! I’m currently running on an average of 3-4 hours sleep a night so you’re seeing a product of complete exhaustion. :P

And apologies for the length. Good on ya if you managed to watch it all.

Not Doing it for the Money

Ever since I handed in my notice at work last week, everyone’s been amazingly supportive, constantly asking me about teaching, the places I’ll visit, the things I’ll see, what I hope will come from it, when I’ll be back. Not to mention the heaps of hilarious photos of Mexicans in sombreros and ponchos that have been emailed to me while I’m in the middle of a call with a passenger.

But one conversation I had with two of my colleagues last week made me really proud of myself and what I’m doing:

Girl #1: Are you going to be paid for teaching out there?

Me: Yeah. I’ll be getting a proper job and living there for a while.

Girl #1: How much do TEFL jobs pay in Mexico?

Me: Well, for the majority of full-time TEFL jobs I’ve seen in the big cities at schools or language centres, it usually equates to about £400-£500 a month. That’s a rough conversion.

The girls’ jaws drop.
