Doing it for the Albion in San Cristóbal de las Casas

My name means Love in Welsh – one of the most important things I live by. By day I’m an English Language teacher to a hundred Chilangos. By night, I’m a writer, always keen to scribble down my observations of the world around me. I was born and bred in Albion but, as of November 2011, am currently situated in Mexico. I’ve always wanted to explore the world so my location’s likely to change a lot.

Not in the Pink isn’t a travel blog or a diary. I write about things that I see, things that inspire me. One day it could be the brutality I witness on the streets of D.F., next week it could be my top ten favourite black and white musicals. I love teaching but my heart feels best when I’m writing about the world, politics, foreign affairs or even something silly like books and films.

I live by the ideas of libertinism, socialism and vegetarianism, and am a big believer in lifelong learning.

I’m caught somewhere amongst the libertines of Albion, between the golden age of Hollywood and the wandering road that McCandless and Guevara paved for me.

I like …

1920s-1950s hollywood, accents, el ángel de la independencia, black eyeliner, books, bourbon, buster keaton, california, chris lilley, chris mccandless, clara bow, classic literature, cwtches, daydreaming, diego luna, donald o’connor, elvis, ernesto guevara, fingerless gloves, the flappers, french fancies, frida kahlo, gene kelly, gentlemen, honesty, history, hot rollers, immigration rights, jack lemmon, janis joplin, jerry lewis, languages, the libertines, lie-ins, low-waisted dresses, marilyn monroe, old ruins, oscar wilde, paris, photography, scarves, the sex pistols, silent pictures, stockings, sylvia plath, tea, teaching, train rides, travel, all things vintage, wandering, world journalism

  1. Are you really reading The Stand? I love that book, but usually get funny looks when I bring that up. Is this your first time reading it?
Hit me up when you start your new blog about teaching English in Latin America so I can follow along!

  2. Ceri! So happy I finally found your website (via Andi’s at My Beautiful Adventures). For some reason, Disqus on my blog wouldn’t lead me to your URL. Anyway, can’t wait to see your new blog documenting your trip! Sounds like it will be an amazing experience.

  3. Bienvendos a Mexico!
When you get to Baja Calirofnia Sur, look me up. If we have some free nightts in the HoneyMoon Hut, come and stay.

Where will you be teaching English?

I admire your pluck and determination.
